Moscow, 24 April 2025 – Chizhik, X5 Group’s hard discounter chain, has significantly expanded its delivery coverage. Since the beginning of the year, online orders have become available to residents of Nizhny Novgorod, Ufa, Chelyabinsk, Tyumen, Saratov, Ryazan, Izhevsk, Yaroslavl, Naberezhnye Chelny, Lipetsk, Cheboksary, Togliatti, Kemerovo, Stavropol, Kurgan, Tambov, Barnaul, as well as several other cities and towns. This expansion brings Chizhik’s delivery service to a nationwide scale, as it is now available in over 315 localities across 43 regions of Russia. The number of stores fulfilling online orders has already surpassed 1,100.
Order fulfilment is handled by Chizhik employees, while deliveries are made by X5 Digital’s own couriers and partners who also work with X5’s Pyaterochka and Perekrestok retail chains, as well as by couriers from delivery aggregators. While delivery speed depends on the customer’s distance from the store, the average delivery time after order placement has dropped from 60 minutes to 45 minutes over the past six months. The maximum order weight remains 30 kg, and the delivery fee via the retailer’s mobile app ranges from RUB 149 to RUB 199.
Chizhik launched its delivery service on a pilot basis in March 2023 and has scaled up significantly over its two years of operation. The service now processes up to 230,000 orders per month, and this volume continues to grow.
“When we decided to expand our delivery geography, our goal was to build a nationwide service that would be available across all regions where Chizhik operates. We have effectively made the service available in all locations where the existing courier market enables us to reach our customers. However, the order density, average ticket, and courier costs vary by location. That’s why our next step is to focus on boosting the quality and profitability of our operations in regions where online delivery is in high demand,” said Alexey Zuev, Director for E-Commerce.
The Chizhik retail chain offers a distinct value proposition based on a combination of attractive prices and high product quality. With two to three employees per store, its unique business model optimises personnel expenses while also cutting down on rental, advertising costs and other overheads. The stores offer only high-demand products that sell in large volumes, enabling the retail chain to negotiate lower purchasing prices with suppliers. The product range includes approximately 1,000 SKUs, of which more than 550 are private labels.
