Perm, 28 March 2025 – X5 Group (“X5”, MOEX: “X5”), a leading Russian food retailer, has opened its first joint distribution centre (DC) that will simultaneously serve two X5 retail chains – the Chizhik hard discounter and the Pyaterochka proximity store. The logistics complex is located in Perm and will supply more than 1,000 stores in the Perm Territory and Udmurtia.
The joint DC with a total area of 54,000 sqm is divided into various sections for storing groceries, fruits and vegetables, chilled and frozen products, and alcoholic beverages, and has a daily throughput capacity of up to 750 tonnes of cargo. The centre offers more than 42,000 storage locations for goods, with the capacity to accommodate more than 4,500 SKUs. Over 300 retail chain partners — including 79 local suppliers — already supply goods to the new DC.
The Perm complex operates more than 250 units of specialised equipment and is managed by the state-of-the-art Nexus warehouse management system, which was developed in-house by X5 Group. The DC also features innovative refrigeration technology that uses carbon dioxide as a refrigerant, significantly reducing harmful emissions into the atmosphere. The Company plans to integrate robotised machinery into warehouse operations to increase labour productivity and will soon open an on-site transport division with a maintenance area for equipment, which will help to further streamline operational processes.
“For Pyaterochka, this distribution centre has become the ninth in the Volga region, where the retail chain continues to actively develop and open new stores. Joint efforts with Chizhik contribute to the development of both retail chains and boost their business performance while optimising costs for logistics infrastructure,” said Igor Chebunin, Executive Director of the Volga Territory at Pyaterochka.
“The launch of the distribution centre will improve the logistics of the retail chains in the region while also strengthening our relations with local producers and suppliers. This is crucial for the seamless provision of fresh, high-quality, and affordable products to all residents of the Perm Territory and nearby regions,” said Svetlana Shikalina, Director of the Urals Territory at Chizhik.
The DC currently employs about 700 people, with 200 employees managing warehouse operations for Chizhik and 500 for Pyaterochka.
