Samara, 20 November 2024 – X5 Group, a leading Russian food retailer, announces the opening of a new distribution centre (DC) in Samara to support its Chizhik hard discounter chain. Leveraging the infrastructure of a former Pyaterochka distribution centre, the new logistics hub will initially ship products to about 100 stores and will serve over 250 stores in the Samara and Ulyanovsk Regions once ramped up to full capacity.
The 18,000-square-metre DC features storage areas for key product categories, including non-perishables, fruit and vegetables, fresh, frozen foods, and alcohol. The hub will process up to 1,000 tonnes of products daily. The facility currently handles shipments from more than 300 suppliers.
Up to 150 employees and about 50 vehicles will ensure the seamless operation of the DC, which uses the TopLog warehouse management system (WMS) to make the process of handling goods and logistics much more efficient.
Chizhik is rapidly expanding its logistics infrastructure in line with X5’s goal to accelerate the development of its hard discounter chain. The chain operated 2,002 stores in 44 regions as of the end of September and continues to expand at a rapid pace. Chizhik has already opened a total of 15 DCs and will launch two more new DCs in its operating regions by year-end.
