Saratov, 4 September 2024 – X5 Group, a leading Russian food retailer, announces the opening of a new distribution centre (DC) for its Chizhik hard discounter chain in Saratov. The logistics hub will serve about 70 stores upon its launch and will ship products to about 200 stores in the Saratov and Penza Regions once it is fully ramped up.
The 14,000-square-metre DC is a multi-temperature warehouse with storage areas for key product categories, including groceries, fruits and vegetables, fresh products, frozen foods and alcohol. The hub will process up to 1,000 tonnes of products daily. The DC currently handles shipments from more than 300 suppliers.
Up to 150 employees and 60 vehicles will ensure the seamless operation of the facility, which uses a warehouse management system (WMS) to make the process of handling goods and logistics much more efficient.
Chizhik is rapidly expanding its logistics infrastructure in line with X5’s goal to accelerate the development of its hard discounter chain. The first store in the Saratov Region was opened in June 2023, with a total of 63 Chizhik stores operating in the Region as of the end of July 2024. Chizhik has already opened six DCs across the country and plans to launch five more new DCs across its geographic footprint by the end of the year.
