Novosibirsk, 19 February 2025 – X5 Group (“X5”, MOEX ticker: X5), a leading Russian food retailer that operates the Pyaterochka, Perekrestok and Chizhik retail chains, announces the opening of a full-scale distribution centre (DC) in Novosibirsk to support its Chizhik hard discounter chain. The logistics centre was previously located at a temporary site with a smaller size and capacity.
The full-scale DC currently serves about 170 stores and will ship products to more than 250 stores in the Novosibirsk, Kemerovo and Tomsk Regions, as well as in the Altai Territory, once fully ramped up.
Measuring about 18,000 square metres, the DC comprises several storage areas for key product categories (non-perishables, fruits and vegetables, fresh and frozen foods, and alcohol). It will process up to 1,000 tonnes of products daily, with approximately 200 employees and some 60 vehicles ensuring its seamless operation.
The new logistics hub currently handles shipments from more than 300 suppliers. The facility uses the TopLog warehouse management system (WMS) to optimise goods storage, reduce the likelihood of errors during goods acceptance and kitting, and cut picking time.
Chizhik is rapidly expanding its logistics infrastructure in line with X5’s goal to accelerate the development of its hard discounter chain. The retail chain operated more than 2,300 stores and 17 DCs as at the start of 2025 and plans to open three more DCs across its operating regions by the end of the year.
