Moscow, October 30, 2024 – X5 Group is taking further steps to support its customers by doubling the number of product categories sold with a markup of 5% or less at its Pyaterochka and Perekrestok stores.
Since 2022, this markup limit has applied to soup vegetables (beets, carrots, potatoes, cabbage and onions), dairy products (milk, cottage cheese, kefir and butter), as well as sugar, bread and bakery at X5 stores. From 1 November, the Company is expanding this list by adding sunflower oil, sour cream, Russian cultured milk (ryazhenka), apples, cheese, frozen fish, pork, chicken, beef soup bones, and C2 category eggs. For one or two popular low-price-segment items in each of these socially important categories, the markup will also be capped at 5%.
This measure will remain in place for four months, until the end of the winter season. While a 5% markup is not enough to cover transportation, storage, and personnel costs as well as other operating expenses, X5, as a leading nationwide food retailer, recognises the importance and timeliness of this temporary measure for supporting consumers’ purchasing power, particularly among vulnerable social groups.
In addition, since December 2020, X5 retail chains have applied zero markups on seven products (pasta, bread, stewed beef, black tea, potatoes, cereal flakes and UHT milk), and in December 2021, X5 Group capped markups on basic products in more than 20 socially important categories at 10%.
