Moscow, 29 August 2024 – X5 Group, a leading Russian food retailer, announces the opening of a new distribution centre (DC) in the Moscow Region to support its Chizhik hard discounter chain. Located in Padikovo, the logistics hub will supply products in key categories to Chizhik stores in the Moscow, Tula, Ryazan and Kaluga Regions.
The 14,000-square-metre DC is a multi-temperature warehouse with storage areas for key product categories, including groceries, fruits and vegetables, fresh products, frozen foods and alcohol. The hub will process up to 1,000 tonnes of products daily.
The DC will serve about 200 stores upon its launch and will eventually ship products to more than 250 stores once fully ramped up. The facility currently handles shipments from more than 300 suppliers.
Up to 140 employees and about 55 vehicles will ensure the seamless operation of the DC, which uses the TopLog warehouse management system (WMS) to make the process of handling goods and logistics much more efficient.
Chizhik is rapidly expanding its logistics infrastructure in line with X5’s goal to accelerate the development of its hard discounter chain. The chain operated 1,852 stores in 44 regions as of the end of July and continues to expand at a rapid pace. By year-end, the chain will launch five more new DCs across its operating regions.
